Abbott Longford Marathon

The Abbott Longford Marathon offers runners a single-loop road course through the “Heart of Ireland,” with marathon, half marathon, ultra marathon, relay, and 5 km races starting and finishing on Main Street in Longford Town. Known for its flat terrain—ideal for personal bests—the route winds through rural roads across County Longford, Roscommon, and Leitrim. Event logistics include chip timing, water and energy stations every few miles, pacers in the full marathon, and support from local bands and volunteers. Participants receive a tech shirt, medal, goody bag, and race-day hospitality.

As a destination race, it also shines off course: Longford Town features heritage sites like St. Mel’s Cathedral, a riverside walk along the Camlin, canal-side trails toward Clondra, artisan dining, music venues, and boutique shopping.
