Event Details
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games mark a milestone as the first Olympic event ever staged on African soil, bringing together the world’s most talented young athletes in a vibrant multisport celebration. The Diamniadio Olympic Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies, providing a state-of-the-art stage for the competition’s ceremonial moments.
Events will be spread across three main clusters. Dakar will feature a dynamic mix of urban and arena sports, including athletics, swimming, skateboarding, 3×3 basketball, boxing, and breaking. Diamniadio will host indoor disciplines such as gymnastics, taekwondo, table tennis, badminton, and judo. Meanwhile, Saly — renowned for its Atlantic coastline — will stage beach volleyball, beach wrestling, sailing, and other water sports, using the natural beauty of Senegal’s shoreline as a competitive backdrop.
In addition to medal events, the Games will include cultural programs and community engagement activities, turning key public spaces into hubs for sport demonstrations, music, and interactive workshops. This approach reflects the Youth Olympic Games’ mission to inspire participation and connect sport with education and culture.
For visitors, the experience extends far beyond the venues. Dakar offers colourful markets, historic sites like Gorée Island, a lively oceanfront promenade, and a thriving arts scene. Saly complements the urban energy with beachfront resorts, water activities, and easy access to Senegal’s diverse landscapes, making the Games both a sporting spectacle and a gateway to West African travel.
