The Gyeongju International Marathon is a certified marathon event hosted in Gyeongju, southeast South Korea, offering full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distance options. The marathon course begins and ends at Gyeongju Civic Stadium in Hwangseong Park, with city streets and parkland forming a single-loop layout optimized for performance and efficiency. Entrants benefit from standard race support: chip timing, hydration and nutrition stations, medical aid, and bag-drop services.
Since its revival in the mid-2000s, the event has drawn elite and recreational runners alike and achieved international recognition, including former IAAF Silver Label status. The race field is capped to maintain a quality experience.
As a travel destination, Gyeongju offers exceptional cultural heritage. Known as “the museum without walls,” the city contains numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, and the royal tombs of the ancient Silla Kingdom. Visiting runners can explore the historic Wolseong and Namsan areas, enjoy lakeside walks around Bomun Lake resort, and experience local festivals celebrating Korea’s ancient past. Efficient transport and compact city layout make sightseeing accessible before or after race day.
