Event Details
Il Lombardia, the final Monument of the cycling year, is a one-day classic spanning the Lombardy region of Italy. Known as the “Race of the Falling Leaves,” it stands out for its gruelling climbs and dramatic descents between Bergamo and Como, ending amid the hills and urban streets of Como, Lombardy. Climbs such as Madonna del Ghisallo and the punishing Colma di Sormano challenge riders with steep grades and multiple switchbacks. A fast descent then drops into Como before a final push through the city to the finish line.
Tickets are sold through the official Il Lombardia website and authorized partners. Spectator passes typically include access to finish-line hospitality areas. Clothing restrictions apply—sport-chic attire is required, and cycling gear is not allowed in hospitality zones. Some passes allow movement within the last portion of the course up to the finish area. Parking near the start and finish areas is strictly controlled and often reserved for accredited vehicles. Detailed maps and vehicle regulations are available in the event’s official spectator guide.
Beyond the race, the surrounding area offers rich Italian culture. The peaceful streets and stone walls of Bergamo’s medieval upper town make exploration a rewarding experience. On non-race days, Como’s lakeside charm and boat rides invite relaxation. From city art collections in Milan to alpine trails near Valtellina, the diverse landscapes of Broader Lombardy make the region a desirable destination for cycling-related travel and regional exploration.
