Event Details

The TCS New York City Marathon is one of the world’s most iconic urban running events, held in the United States and drawing elite athletes, recreational runners, and charity fundraisers from around the globe. The field begins on Staten Island and progresses through New York’s five boroughs—Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan—before finishing in Central Park.

The course showcases a broad cross-section of NYC neighborhoods: you cross the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn, move through diverse districts, then pass via Queens into Manhattan over the Queensboro Bridge. After a loop north on First Avenue, you touch The Bronx and re-enter Manhattan via the Madison Avenue Bridge. The final stretch runs down Fifth Avenue, then enters Central Park past Columbus Circle for a memorable finish.

Organized by New York Road Runners, the race includes professional logistics with pacers, hydration stations, medical support, live tracking, and a race expo. Over a million spectators line the route, offering cheering sections and energy zones that amplify race-day ambiance.

As a travel-running event, NYC attendees can combine racing with sightseeing: post-race, explore Times Square, take in skyline views from the Top of the Rock, stroll Fifth Avenue, or wander through SoHo and Greenwich Village. With subway access and pedestrian-friendly zones, it’s a top pick for combining a major marathon experience with city tourism.
