The Davis Cup Final 8 will head to Bologna, Italy, marking a new chapter for the prestigious tennis competition. After three years in Malaga, Spain, the team event moves to northern Italy, where it will be staged from 2025 through 2027. The 2025 edition will run from November 18 to November 23, bringing an elite eight-nation knockout format to one of Italy’s most vibrant cities.

Known as the Final 8, this stage of the Davis Cup serves as the pinnacle of the world’s largest annual team competition in the sport, which involved 157 nations in 2024. Bologna now joins the growing list of Italian cities playing host to major international tennis events, alongside Turin with the ATP Finals and Rome with the Masters 1000.

David Haggerty, President of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), praised Italy’s role in hosting: “We are delighted to partner with the FITP for the Davis Cup Final 8. Italy has a rich history in tennis and a proven ability to host world-class sporting events. We are confident that over the next three years, working with the FITP, we can take the Davis Cup even higher, providing an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike.”

While Bologna will host the first edition of the Final 8 in Italy, other cities such as Milan and Turin remain in contention for future years, according to reports in The Athletic. Malaga’s final edition in 2024 proved a historic one, closing with Rafael Nadal’s retirement before Italy claimed the title with a victory over the Netherlands.

Italy, the reigning champion, qualified automatically for the 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 as host, while seven other countries will complete the field.

Bologna, Italy

A popular travel destination with a central location in Italy, rich cultural heritage, and strong travel connections, Bologna is well placed to welcome fans from around the world.

The city is well-connected by air, rail, and road thanks to its advantageous location in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The Guglielmo Marconi Airport, which connects Bologna to major European capitals, is only 10 km from the city centre. At the same time, easy access from locations like Florence or Milan is guaranteed by high-speed trains from the Trenitalia and Italo networks. Exploration of the city’s vast medieval core is encouraged by the walkable Centro Storico.

Bologna’s identity is rooted in culture, architecture, and cuisine. Known as “the Learned” for its ancient university and “the Fat” for its renowned food, the city centers around lingering porticoes — arched walkways spanning nearly 40 km, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site — offering shelter and character to its historic streets.

Within this architectural tapestry are landmarks such as Piazza Maggiore, the Two Towers, the Basilica of San Petronio, and the Archiginnasio, blending art, history, and intellectual tradition.
