The Maratona di Pisa is a city road race in Italy that includes a certified full marathon, half marathon (Pisanina), and a festive 6.44 km Christmas Family Run. Both the marathon and half marathon start and finish in Piazza dei Miracoli, the home of the iconic leaning Tower of Pisa.
This flat, fast loop explores Pisa’s historic core, riverside lanes along the Arno River, then extends through the San Rossore Natural Park toward the Tyrrhenian coast before returning past the marina and back into the city center. The route is officially certified by the Italian Athletics Federation and aligns with global standards for personal best attempts and travel runners.
Participants receive timing chips, hydration and nutrition stations, finisher medals, event shirts, pacers, bag drop, and medical support—all included in entry packages for competitive and non-competitive runners alike.
Runners visiting Italy for the race can combine performance with tourism: the race begins beneath Pisa’s cathedral complex, finishes beside the famous tower, and runs through elegant Tuscan alleys and waterfronts. Post-race recovery can include exploring the Piazza dei Cavalieri, admiring the Arno-lined streets, sampling Tuscan cuisine, viewing local art galleries, or visiting nearby coastal towns and nature reserves.
