The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will return to Germany in September 2026, marking the country’s first time hosting the event since 1998. Berlin will stage the tournament from 4 to 13 September, bringing together many of the strongest national teams in international basketball.
Sixteen teams will compete at the Berlin Arena and the Max Schmeling Halle. Germany qualifies as the host nation and will be joined by leading contenders such as the United States, Australia, Belgium and Nigeria. The remaining 11 spots will be filled through the qualifying tournament scheduled for March 11 to 17. FIBA has not yet announced the date for the official draw.
Germany’s group-stage games will take place on September 4, 5 and 7. The final weekend, including the championship game, is set for September 12 and 13.
Ticket sales have already opened, including packages for the final round. These tickets grant access to the semi-finals and final and cover all twelve knockout-stage games. Additional sales phases with day and team-specific options are planned for early 2026. Team tickets and individual session tickets will be released after the draw.
Beyond the Court: Discover Berlin
Berlin is the capital of Germany and the centre of the nation’s political and cultural life. With more than 3.5 million residents, it is the country’s largest city.
From 1961 to 1989, Berlin was divided by a wall that became one of the most defining symbols of the Cold War. Its fall in 1989 marked a historic moment that reshaped modern Europe. Sites such as the East Side Gallery and the Berlin Wall Memorial continue to preserve that history.
Berlin offers a wide range of landmark attractions, major museums and contemporary art spaces. Its streets feature bold murals and creative installations that reflect an artistic spirit found throughout the city.
The capital of Germany combines modern culture with its rich history. Notable landmarks include the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall Memorial, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Museum Island, and the Topography of Terror Museum, along with many other attractions.
One of the most visited cities in Europe, Berlin’s blend of heritage and contemporary design shapes a distinct atmosphere, where historic architecture stands alongside new buildings, lively cafés and neighbourhoods known for their cultural energy and nightlife.
