Event Details
The Seoul Marathon (also known as the Seoul International Marathon) is a World Athletics Platinum Label-certified event held in South Korea, offering full marathon and 10K distances. The race begins at Gwanghwamun Plaza—a historic square lined with statues of King Sejong and Admiral Yi Sun‑sin—and proceeds through Seoul’s central streets, including Sejongno, Dongdaemun, and Gwanghwamun Square.
The point-to-point marathon route crosses the Han River multiple times via scenic bridges and finishes at the Olympic Sports Complex in the Jamsil area. The certified course is mainly flat, favouring competitive runners aiming for fast times. Support services include chip timing, hydration and nutrition stations, pacers, medical teams, and post-race logistics.
More than 30,000 participants, including international runners, typically register, making it one of Asia’s most popular urban marathons. Organized by the Seoul Marathon Committee under AIMS standards, it also features a companion 10K for broader participation.
As a travel-runner destination, Seoul offers compelling tourism opportunities. After the finish, runners can explore nearby landmarks such as Bukchon Hanok Village, Deoksugung Palace, and the riverside parks along the Han River. Efficient subway access and a compact city centre make it easy to combine competitive racing with cultural sightseeing.
