Event Details

The 2026 Olympic Winter Games stretch across northern Italy, anchored by San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan, where the opening ceremony ignites the global celebration. Ice sports — including figure skating, short-track, speed skating, and ice hockey — take place at Milan’s premier facilities: the Milano Ice Skating Arena, the redeveloped Ice Park at Fiera Milano for speed skating and hockey, and the modern Santa Giulia Ice Hockey Arena.

In the Alpine arenas, Cortina d’Ampezzo hosts women’s alpine skiing at Tofane, sliding disciplines like bobsleigh, luge, skeleton at the new sliding centre, and curling at the storied Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

Men’s alpine skiing and ski mountaineering thrill at Bormio’s Stelvio slope, while Livigno buzzes with freestyle skiing and snowboarding at its snow park and aerials & moguls park.

Northern Italy’s terrain plays host to Nordic and cross-country events in Val di Fiemme—Predazzo for ski jumping and Nordic combined, and Tesero for cross-country, para biathlon, and para cross-country skiing.

As the finale unfolds, Verona’s legendary Roman amphitheatre provides a dramatic setting for the closing ceremony.

Given the spread across eight cities and mountain villages, these Games are the most geographically extensive Winter Games to date. This ambitious layout prioritizes sustainability by leveraging existing venues, but it also introduces logistical challenges for travel and planning.

International visitors can combine world-class competition with Italy’s winter tourism gems: iconic alpine landscapes, historic villages, fine dining, design and culture in Milan, and charming heritage in Cortina and the surrounding valleys.
